BENEFITS

  1
Why a Cooperative?

Members of cooperative businesses pay lower or stabilized prices for products and services because of the buying power of the cooperative. Businesses that sell to cooperatives may receive higher or stabilized prices for their products or services. Benefits are distributed to members based on usage of the cooperative’s products or services. A member who purchases 10 percent of the products or services receives a return of 10 percent in benefits. Cooperative business members also benefit from shared ownership, which results in shared risk, both liability and financial, and reduced expenses for operational costs.

Entrepreneurship

How many times have you had an idea to start a business but didn't know what the first steps were? How about knowing where you would obtain financing? Even with a great idea for a business you stil have to reach customers and convince them to purchase your products or services. HOSCO has created an infrastructure that can assist you with this process. Although much of our training is centered on entrepreneurship through food production, processing and distribution we also understand that technology is another pathway for rewarding careers. This is why we are launching a number of entrepreneurship trainings in Spring 2015 that will focus on technology related careers. Each class of students will have the opportunity to run their own HOSCO cooperative that will focus on food or technology related fields. Whether you're interested growing or processing foods, construction or developing technology that supports these industries we can help you get started.

Why Food and Technology?

If you do a bit of research you will find that agriculture and technology are the two main industries that not only build strong nations but also strong communities. We have lost many of our trade schools and agriculture has passed from family farm hands to major corporations that have more interest in profits over healthy comunities. Our goal is to reverse this trend and recreate agricultural and technologically minded individuals that will help make a better tomorrow. All of our programs whether food or non food related will focus on rebuilding the community by applying knowledge through practical hands on cooperative dynamics.
